Are you soon planning to celebrate 15 years of your car? Here is some crucial information that you need to know!
The life of a vehicle is fixed to 15 years by Indian Automotive industry, which means that once your beloved car gets 15 years old, it has to meet its destined end. The Regional Transport Offices or the RTOs will not renew your vehicle registration and you know that you cannot just drive your car illegally on the roads of India. A vehicle is termed as ELV or waste when it is no longer safe to be driven on the roads or it does not comply with the emission standards. So, ideally after 15 years, when your car gets aged and driving becomes illegal as well as unsuitable for the environment, what could you possibly do with it?
Well, getting it recycled is an environment friendly option.
Here are a few things that every car owner must know before getting his car scrapped.
In a layman’s language, car scrapping means your beloved car is going to be chopped off into several pieces and each piece would go through the recycle process. It is necessary to get it chopped to eliminate the risk of it being used for unauthorised /illegal activities as well. However, here is a checklist which you need to take care of to ensure the entire process is done smoothly.
- First & Foremost; only approach an authorised scrap dealer to ensure your car is disposed off in a safe manner.
- You can ask for quotes from different auto scrap dealers. The price for your car depends majorly upon its working condition. If the car is working well, you can also negotiate for the different parts like tyres, battery, CNG unit (if installed) etc. If the car is not in the working condition, you are likely to get the price per kilogram of the metal.
- Note down the chassis number before sending the car for scrapping.
- Informing RTO about car scrapping is car owners’ responsibility. You have to write a letter to the RTO for informing the same.
- The original RC & chassis number is to be submitted at the RTO for historical records.
- You also have an option to get your car number de-registered.
- Take a picture of your scrapped car to be shown at the RTO for further procedure.
- Also, a confirmation on the letterhead from Car Scrap Dealer is to be submitted at the RTO.
With this checklist in mind, you’ll have an idea of how to properly bid adieu to
your beloved car. The process isn’t at all complicated, you just have to connect
with the authorised dealers for car scrapping and get the process done
smoothly.
